(WOODHULL, NY) – Dgien Trucking will present the racing action on the High Banks this Saturday night at Woodhull Raceway as the 8th annual Woodhull Modified King of the Bullring for the Insinger Performance Modifieds will be held.
One of the most anticipated events of the Summer is the Modified King of the Ring and it has truly been a Woodhull Raceway Who’s Who List that have captured the crown. The first seven editions of the event carried the name of the Jake Davis Memorial event, with the eighth edition being the first to not carry that name.
The very first King of the Ring for the Modifieds finished in storybook fashion, with Kenny Peoples Jr. taking the popular win in 2013 over Billy Van Pelt.
2014 saw Josh Nobriga win in the final round over Joe Dgien, while ‘The Maniac’ Mike Bills won the 2015 running over Van Pelt. Van Pelt finally was able to win a King of the Ring during the 2016 season.
2017 saw the ‘flying school teacher’ Donnie Lawson finally unlock the gates to King of the Ring Victory Lane. Lawson’s victory holds a special place on his mantle at home as he had taught Davis in school.
Russell Morseman continued the streak of new faces in King of the Ring competition with his 2018 victory. Morseman got to wear the cape and crown to celebrate with his family heavily rooted in local motorsports and all of his sponsors and supporters.
The seventh edition of the event and the last to carry the Memorial name in 2019 would go to Bobby Davis. A fitting way to encapsulate seven years of amazing competition as the Memorial event was bookended by family members.
Will we see the eighth different winner in eight tries this weekend? The event format certainly lends itself to upset winners and a level playing field in each round.
The King of the Bullring is a ‘knockout style’ single elimination match race that sees drivers compete in two lap match races. The winner of each match race moves on to the next round, while the second-place car heads back to the trailer to make final adjustments for that night’s A-Main.
