Close Racing Supply of Eldred, Pa. to sponsor the night of action which includes a special Crate Sportsman $1,000 to win feature event.
Story by Kenny Shupp Jr. Promotions and Consulting LLC.
Woodhull, NY- The Woodhull Raceway will swing open the gates for their 57th consecutive season of race action on Saturday, April 16 as Close Racing Supply will present a seven-card event high-lighted by a special $1,000 to win NAPA 602 Crate Sportsman feature event.
Without question, the NAPA Crate Sportsman can boast the largest car counts at Woodhull on any given race night and the track is pleased to open the 2022 campaign offering the Sportsman with a special event.
“Last season we had enough Sportsman most weeks requiring a consolation event to set the feature field. The class has grown enormously over the years and the drivers provide great racing action week in and week out. With the tough economy coupled with the excessive cost of fielding a race car we wanted to make it a special season opener for the NAPA Sportsman by providing them with this high dollar event.” That according to Woodhull Raceway owners, Terry and Niki Brewer.
With 2021 NAPA Crate Sportsman Track Champion, Josh Keesey stepping back from active racing the door is wide open for a new champion in the highly competitive division in 2022. Former Class Champion, Kenny Peoples Jr. was on a tear the last five weeks that closed out the “21” campaign at Woodhull and he will be a tough competitor when the track opens for the first point show of the year on April 16. Do not count our veteran racers like Dale Welty, Art Goodier, Stacy Jackson, Tim Guild, AJ Costley, the brothers Blake and Cayden Lawson along with talented lady racer, Isabel Barron as they have all staked their claim to the 2022 title.
Also seeing action on the season opener will be the Armstrong Crate Late Models, the Joe Willcox Performance Street Stocks along with the Hobby Stock Division, the 4 Cylinder Mini Stocks, Front Wheel Drives and the Woodhull Warriors.
The Insinger Performance Modifieds will not see action until April 23 when they kick off their 2022 campaign with a special $2,000 to win feature.
For the Brewer’s it will mark their third season owning and promoting the popular Steuben County oval having struggled thru the past two years including an abbreviated 2020 season due to stringent New York State COVID 19 restrictions which did not allow for any fans into the grandstand seating area. Then in 2021 when fans were allowed back the season saw no less than seven full rain outs which included an August flood completely devastating the greater Woodhull community. With all that now behind them the Brewer’s hope that 2022 will meet and exceed all expectations.
