Van Pelt Scores First Win Of The Season at Woodhull Raceway

(WOODHULL,NY)- The rain finally held off for fans and drivers at Woodhull Raceway this past Saturday, May 4. Fans and Drivers rolled through the gates with anticipation and ready to make the dirt fly. 119 cars filled the pit area this past weekend making the competition strong for the Alfred State College and Kickin’ Country 105.3FM night. Even with the high amount of competition, Billy Van Pelt, still stood strong amongst them.
Van Pelt started three rows back but found his way to the front in less than five laps. Dayton Brewer and Donnie Lawson set the pace to the green flag. Lawson, Brian Doolittle, and Van Pelt found themselves battling until an early race caution flag came out and set them back up.
Van Pelt found an opening and passed Lawson on the outside to claim the lead. Racing continued throughout the pack as drivers like Russell Morseman and Josh Keesey fought their way to the front. Unfortunately, Morseman saw engine troubles in the middle of the 25-lap event.
Drivers were using every inch of racing room, Saturday night. Doolittle tried hunting down Van Pelt but couldn’t quite catch him. Van Pelt scored his first victory of the season over Doolittle.
AJay Potrzebowski Jr. and Jake Dgien made up the first row of the 30-lap NAPA Crate Sportsman feature event. Two early race cautions would make the cars go single file. Dgien lead the restarts over Brayden Bills.
Kenny Peoples Jr. battled his way up through the field battling Potrzebowski Jr. for several laps. Brandon Butler also battled his way back through the field after getting involved in an early race collision.
Dgien brought home the checkered over Peoples Jr.. Potrzebowski Jr., Brett Buono, and Tim Guild rounded out the top five.
The Daugherty Auto Sales and Service Woodhull Warriors has their first race of the season this Saturday as well. Dylon Morseman and Brook McClain set the pace to Tony Van Pelt’s green flag.
Morseman grabbed the lead early but McClain staid close in tow. Some early race cautions set the cars back up and gave McClain a shot at getting past Morseman. Lap five McClain saw an opening coming out of turn two and took advantage.
The next five laps were clicked off by McClain who brought home her first checkered flag of the season. Morseman finished second with Josh Issaman, Brody Amidon, and Tess Johnson for the top five.
Woodhull Auto Supply Hobby Stocks started their season out this past Saturday. Jerred Dennis and Brent Williams set the pace. Dennis jumped to the lead.
Dennis pulled away with the lead while Les Smith and Mike Spencer battled for third place. Carter Dennis made his way through the pack as well and found himself battling for second place late in the race. J. Dennis came home with the win with C. Dennis in second, Smith in third.
Darin Horton and Brian Knowles rolled off the starting grid for the Cummings Trucking Crate Late Models. B. Knowles started off strong.
Horton, Jason Knowles, and Kurt Stebbins went three wide causing Horton to get high and lose a few positions. Scott Waters gets by B. Knowles but the caution caused the restart to go back a lap.
The top four cars battled their way with B. Knowles leading the way. While battling for positions B. Knowles got off the back stretch and dropped back to third. This let J. Knowles and Waters on by. J. Knowles came home with the win with Waters coming in second.
The Joe Willcox Performance Automatics Street Stocks kicked off their season this Saturday. Brett Marlatt and Dan Gardner rolled off to take the green.
Marlatt got the lead from their and lead through the checkered flag. Gardner battled his way to a second place finish. Drivers were fighting for positions throughout the field making it an exciting race.
Jared Hill made his way from the back of the pack to a third place finish beating Jim Buck and Brett Crawford for fourth and fifth respectively.
The Daugherty Auto Sales and Service Mini Stocks took the green flag with Jason Gleason and Rick Amidon in the front row. An early race caution set things back up but Gleason still took the lead.
Danielle Thomas drove her way back up through the field after having a flat tire mid race. Thomas secured fifth place behind Scott Lehman who finished fourth.
Jason Ketrow tried to make moves on Gleason but didn’t quite have enough and ended up losing positions some positions after getting loose. Gleason brought home the win after leading from lap 1.
Ryan Austin and Nick Brown brought the Johnson’s Auto Supply FWD to the green flag this Saturday. Brown took the lead early and held it until 2018 Track Champion Codie Baker weaved his way up to second. Austin stumbled on the back stretch throwing out the caution. The caution gave Baker the chance to close the gap on Brown. Baker took over the lead at lap 17 and led until the checkered flag at lap 20.
