WOODHULL RACEWAY LOOSES FIRST SHOW OF 2009 TO FOUL WEATHER. (Woodhull, NY) “I just hate afternoons like this, stated Woodhull Raceway owner, Vern Wasson. You’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t.” A continual band of late afternoon showers, with the threat of even more unsettled weather later in the evening forced the Woodhull Raceway to cancel the May 16 event and with that Woodhull lost its first event of the 2009 race season. “My assistant, Kyle Lefelhoc had his nose in the computer all afternoon watching numerous storms race across the state with several barely missing us earlier in the day. Then we had a pretty good shower at 4:00 pm followed by another at 5:15 forcing the cancellation. Naturally as soon as I pulled the plug it quit and the sun came out, however another band of rain hit the track at 8:30 so I guess in retrospect I did indeed make the right call.” With that it will set up a huge night on Saturday, May 23 with the Annual running of the George Williams Memorial Trophy Races which will include an extra distance event for the L.J. Kennedy Trucking 358 Modifieds. The Elkland Moose Family Center will be at Woodhull to sponsor the show. In addition to the Kennedy Trucking 358 Mods., also on the card it will be a regular show of the S&W Awards and Photos Crate Sportsman, the NAPA 360 Late Models along with the Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stocks, the Signs Plus of Kanona Mini Stocks as well as the LaBarron Brothers Repair and Parts FWD Divisions. Gates for the May 23, 2009 event open at 4:30 with racing at 6:30 pm. With the loss of the May 16 show, the nightly event sponsor, Griffith Energy Products of Woodhull will be rescheduled at a later date.
